Introduction to the Internet
Designed and will teach a three-credit course on Internet technology and research techniques for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students in Journalism.

University of Alabama, School of Library & Information Studies
Issues in Librarianship: The Internet
Designed and taught a three-credit course on Internet issues for librarians. Included basic instruction on a variety of Internet tools, including gopher, telnet, ftp, and WWW. Particular emphasis was given to the design and development of network-based information resources, using Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML).

Information Technologies
Taught core class on technology for librarianship. Developed a new syllabus that included emphasis on network technology and resources. Course covered basic computer concepts ranging from operating systems and word processing to library automation systems and local area networking. The class and the exams included substantial hands-on work with computers and networked systems.

Introduction to Information Science
Taught elective information science seminar, with emphasis on social and cultural effects of information technologies on society.

University of Oklahoma Extension Services Introduction to the Internet (8/94, 8/93)
Designed and presented a five-day intensive academic course on the Internet, sponsored by the School of Library and Information Studies and presented to graduate and continuing education students. This class was repeated the following year due to its popularity.

Appointed to the faculty of the Journalism Department to teach classes in new media on the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Internet Training & Consulting Services, Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Provide training and consulting on Internet topics to libraries, law firms, businesses, military bases, government agencies, educators, and K-12 students. Developed extensive WWW resources for ITCS and related organizations.

Congressional Information Service, Bethesda, Maryland
Support Supervisor, 1/90 - 6/92
Supervised CD-ROM telephone support and training to worldwide users, internal testing of CD-ROM software products, production of print and online user documentation, and product fulfillment. With programming staff, developed new CD-ROM user interfaces.
Office Automation Coordinator, 4/89 - 6/92
Specified, purchased, and installed 250-node, 4-server Novell local area network with CD-ROM server, and supervised all network operations. Provided technical support to all company employees on a wide range of hardware and software configurations. Supervised PC support staff. Prepared and administered departmental budgets.

RESEARCH Dissertation Research: Making Sense of Scholarship: Doctoral Student Dropouts in Library & Information Studies
A study of the perceptions and experiences of LIS doctoral students who have recently dropped out of their programs, using Dervin's sense-making methodology as a framework for understanding the doctoral program as an information system that is failing to meet the needs of its users.

The Sociology of Culture in Computer-Mediated Communication: An Initial Exploration
Paper written as a preliminary research plan for studying computer-mediated communication on the Internet from a cultural studies perspective. Focuses on the potential application of Pierre Bourdieu's Sociology of Culture theoretical base.

Computers and the Communication of Gender
Paper on the issues of gender identity and shifting boundaries in the context of computer-mediated communication. Submitted for publication fall of 1994.
