Doctoral Work

Current

I got my undergraduate degree in History and my MLS from the University of Michigan; as a result, I'm an avid (some might say rabid...) fan of the Wolverines, and am locked in an ongoing feud with a current colleague who actually admits to being an OSU graduate.

I completed my doctorate in Communication and Information Science at the University of Alabama's School of Library & Information Studies.

My dissertation was on people who dropped out of doctoral programs in my field. Really. If you must read it, here's a PDF version.

Everything else you ever wanted to know about my academic life is in my Curriculum Vitae. Read at your own risk...

I do occasionally get queries about some papers I've written over the past few years. Links to them are in my CV, but to spare you reading through all the hype, here are the direct links:

I'm an assistant professor of Information Technology at the Rochester Institute of Technology. (That's Rochester, NY.) What's IT? Great question. Essentially, it's the use of computer technology to store, manipulate, transmit, and present information.

My areas of interest are web design and technology, particularly the design of information structures on the web using HTML and XML, and the use of various technologies to create personalized, data-driven sites.
